Vacuums are scary
Dillon has taken the title of fraidy dog a further step with his latest fear. Often fear comes from survival instincts and this is often more obvious in dogs, but it seems not with our Dilbert. Dillon has now reached new heights in spinelessness with his fear of the vacuum.
Of course, vacuum phobia is a common one for dogs. Dillon however doesn’t bark at it or chase it, no his reaction is to run. He will literally not be in any room the vacuum cleaner is in. This fear seems to have come to a head where today during some house clearing he even went against his usual stick to human’s like glue behavior and wouldn’t come upstairs where the evil vacuum cleaner was.
I’ve been thinking of ways to get him around this as it’s obviously not the best thing for the furry one. I’m probably going to opt for the ‘isn’t the vacuum great it has biscuits’ option. As with any fear in a dog though I know it’s going to be a 2 steps forward, 1 back. In overcoming a dog’s fear you have to be firm but understanding.
Our human world doesn’t make sense on so many levels to dogs and we often forget this. Dillon is showing me something none of my other dogs have and reminding me of this. Barley even today proved that when the dog guard fell down and she just pottered out form under it. Dillon however, seems to be teaching me that dogs can’t make as much sense from the human world as we do.
